Hike for 6 days visiting amazing valleys and Berber villages, meeting local Berber people and discovering their customs and traditions. Your luggage will be carried on mules while a professional mountain guide explains Moroccan history and the geography of the Atlas Mountains.
Meet the mule team, load gear, and begin walking along the valley towards Tacheddirt, 8km beyond Imlil. Climb to the pass at Tizi n'Tamatert (2,279m), descend to Ouaneskra village, and continue to Tacheddirt (3,000m) where you camp near the river.
Cross the valley and begin a long, slow ascent to the pass at Tizi Likemt (3,555m). Tough going with loose scree. At the top, enjoy the first fine view of the Toubkal massif. Long downhill descent to Azib Likemt for camping.
A long but relatively easy day through contrasting landscapes. From Tizi n'Ououraine (3,120m), enjoy views of the Toubkal massif including the summit, east face, and Ifni Dome (3,876m). Continue to Amsouzert, one of the most striking villages in the region. Overnight in a village Gîte.
Explore small villages west of Amsouzert while making your way towards Lake Ifni — the only lake in the massif. A memorable sight surrounded by rocky mountains and giant heaps of rubble, unusually deep. Arrive by lunchtime and spend the afternoon relaxing at the shore. Camp in this area.
By now fit and acclimatised, tackle the hardest day. Steep path up an endless scree slope to the pass at Tizi n'Ouanoums (3,664m), a narrow ledge between two shafts of rock. Long zigzag descent to the Neltner Hut mountain refuge for overnight.
Leave before dawn following the well-worn route to the summit. 2–3 hours to reach the top with expansive views of the entire Atlas range and Marrakech plains. Descend through Sidi Chamharouch and Aremd to Imlil. Transfer to Marrakech by car.
